Canaã dos Carajás Culture House is a space devoted to the State of Pará’s artistic and cultural expressions and aims to reveal the wealth of regional traditions by creating and carrying out projects and events, as well as by keeping historical records. Its initiatives welcome the local community as it offers each and every citizen, especially the local population, an array of free activities. Such actions are done by our staff alongside partners who dedicate themselves to providing effective improvements to people’s lives!
Its Music, Dance and Theater School receives hundreds of local citizens, creating closer affectional bonds with the community as it welcomes and reveals talents and transforms lives. Its historical and bibliographic collections enable us to relive memories and facts and stimulate the social valuing of the material and immaterial heritage of the city of Canaã dos Carajás.
In its diverse activities and multiple spaces, the Culture House stimulates the dialogue, the coexistence and content production related to the regional cultural identity. Moreover, the community has the chance of socializing and seeking professional enhancement by participating in workshops, lectures and different events involving fields that are akin to the institution’s artistic and cultural initiatives. All this brings the whole region a great and positive impact.
In order to organize and make its actions available, the Culture House was structured around four different axes:
Opened in 2004, the space is a part of the cultural facilities network run by Vale Cultural Institute, being its branch in the State of Pará. Throughout its history, the House has been visited by thousands of people who have taken part in its face-to-face and virtual activities, contributing to democratizing the access to culture and valuing the region’s various artistic expressions.
Space open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 7 pm. The House, nevertheless, offers several online activities such as storytelling, workshops, lectures, concerts and a wide range of free events all through the year. Check the program at this website.

The spaces in Canaã dos Carajás Culture House were designed to provide people with disabilities with easy and preferential access: curb cuts to either enter or leave the Cultural Café and the event area; access ramps with handrails at the entrance and leading to the playground; handrails and appropriate toilet installations for people with special needs, impaired mobility and the elderly; reserved spaces in the Auditorium for people in wheelchairs, as well as reserved parking for people with disabilities and the elderly in the House’s parking lot.
As for the accessibility practices aimed at the inclusion of different publics, the Culture House offers monthly sensorial events translated into Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) and Braille, easily found in the event calendar available at this site. In addition to this, a part of the team of monitors was trained to offer appropriate assistance to visitors with hearing and/or visual impairment.
Cultural activities are regularly held at social assistance institutions as well as at public squares, peripheral neighborhoods and rural areas. The Culture House, aiming to make art and culture accessible to all, also makes available free transportation to enable group visits to the institution’s events. Actions conceived in such a way reflect our guideline of valuing diversity and, above all, people.
Canaã dos Carajás Culture House is a part of Vale Cultural Institute, created in 2020 with the purpose of strengthening Vale’s cultural actions, valuing our cultural heritage, democratizing the access and promoting the various artistic expressions. For nearly two decades Vale has invested in and sought to foster the multiple Brazilian cultural manifestations in all their diversity.
The actions carried out by Vale Cultural institute at its own four museums and cultural centers, namely: Canaã dos Carajás Culture House, Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, Vale Museum and Vale Maranhão Cultural Center, aim to preserve and value the material and immaterial heritage and the manifold artistic expressions that the institute either holds or fosters. They are based on the understanding of culture as a tool for social change, capable of generating positive impact on people’s lives and building a legacy for future generations.
